Padstow is one of the prettiest towns in Cornwall, and in recent years has become even more well known because of the television chef Rick Stein who owns the famous Seafood Restaurant here. Located on the beautiful Camel Estuary and the stunningly dramatic North Cornwall coast there are miles of sandy beaches and lovely walks.
The Old Town runs up from the harbour to Prideaux Place, the home of the Prideaux Brune family and open throughout the summer. Most of the shops and restaurants are close to the harbour.
It is a delightful shamble of buildings, dating from the 14th century Abbey House to more recent flats. Wandering through the streets you will find delightful old pubs, Like the London Inn and the Red Lion, home of the original Red Oss that makes its appearance on May Day each year when the whole town celebrates the coming of spring. Here you will also find a surprising number of fashion boutiques and a number of restaurants with prices to suit everyone. Rick Stein's Cafe is very popular and if you want a great pasty for your lunch try the delicatessen. If you are feeling energetic you can hire bikes and cycle up the Camel Trail, a route that follows the old railway line along the river to Wadebridge, and eventually up on to Bodmin Moor
Padstow, although on the coast, is an ideal centre for exploring Cornwall. Just across the estuary the village of Rock is well known for its watersports. Not far away are the surfing beaches of Newquay and Watergate Bay.
Walking along the estuary out toward Tregirls is one of the most popular walks for visitors and locals alike. With stunning views and no traffic the only sound is the crying of the birds and the sound of the sea. If your idea of a holiday is slightly less active the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan are easily accessible from Padstow as are the National Trust houses of Lanhydrock and Cothele. Further afield the Tate Gallery at St Ives can be visited.
Whatever your reason for visiting if you are looking for a Padstow Bed and Breakfast I will be delighted to welcome you to Arum House.
